An approaching cold front will bring showers and scattered thunderstorms for late this afternoon into tonight. Some of the thunderstorms could contain damaging wind gusts, and frequent lighting especially across eastern NY. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of eastern NY within a Marginal to Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and tonight.
In addition, thunderstorms may produce locally heavy downpours, which could lead to isolated flash flooding in low lying, urban and poor drainage areas. This potential will be greatest where multiple thunderstorms occur. The Weather Prediction Center has placed ALL of eastern New York and adjacent western New England within a Slight Risk for flash flooding for late this afternoon into tonight.
