NWS Albany - Wind Advisory and Ice Jam Potential - Thursday February 7, 2019 - 500 PM
*** The information in this email pertains to the following areas only:**** *- In Connecticut: Litchfield County* *- In Massachusetts: Berkshire County* *- In Vermont: Bennington & Windham Counties* *- In New York: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Ulster, Warren and Washington Counties* *Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,* A Wind advisory has been issued from 1 pm Friday to 1 pm Saturday for the Mohawk Valley, southern Adirondacks, Capital District, Helderbergs and the Schoharie Valley. The wind advisory may need to expanded later if confidence increases for wind advisory gusts for other parts of the region. *Tonight - Tomorrow:* Periods of above freezing temperatures, snow melt and rain will lead to rises on area rivers. Although river flows are not expected to reach flood levels on their own, river rises may be enough to cause some ice break up and movement which could lead to some localized ice jam flooding. The potential for isolated ice jam flooding continues into Friday. In addition, some lake effect snow may impact the western Adirondacks, and western Mohawk Valley Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Winter Weather Advisories may be needed later in time.
