NWS Albany - Freezing Rain Today into Thursday, Late Week Ice Jam Potential - February 6, 2019 - 5 AM
*** The information in this email pertains to the following areas only:**** *- In Connecticut: Litchfield County* *- In Massachusetts: Berkshire County* *- In Vermont: Bennington & Windham Counties* *- In New York: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Ulster, Warren and Washington Counties* *Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,* *This afternoon into Thursday:* Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for much of eastern New York and western New England. A period of freezing rain is expected across the region this afternoon through Thursday morning. The evening and Thursday morning commutes could be difficult depending on the exact timing and location of the freezing rain. The precipitation will change to all rain over most areas Thursday morning. Many locations in the higher elevations could receive a tenth to a quarter inch of ice during this time frame. *Thursday - Friday:* Periods of above freezing temperatures, snow melt and rain will lead to rises on area rivers. Although river flows are not expected to reach flood levels on their own, river rises may be enough to cause some ice break up and movement which could lead to some localized ice jam flooding.
