NWS Albany - Winter Storm Watch and Dangerously Cold Temperatures This Week - Sunday, January 27, 2019 - 530 PM
*** The information in this email pertains to the following areas only:**** *- In Connecticut: Litchfield County* *- In Massachusetts: Berkshire County* *- In Vermont: Bennington & Windham Counties* *- In New York: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Ulster, Warren and Washington Counties* Dear Emergency Managers and other partners, A winter storm watch has been issued from 7AM Tuesday - 7AM Wednesday for Herkimer, Hamilton, Warren, Fulton, Montgomery and Northern Saratoga Counties. Seven or more inches of snow is possible for the winter storm watch area. Winter Weather headlines may be needed for the remainder of Eastern New York and Western New England if confidence increases. The snow may mix with rain during the day Tuesday from the Capital District, south down to the mid-Hudson Valley and into Northwestern Connecticut. Precipitation is expected to change over to all snow Tuesday night. A bitterly cold air mass will move into the region Wednesday afternoon and persist through Friday. The combination of the cold temperatures and winds will produce dangerous wind chills, especially Wednesday night through Thursday. This will likely cause some isolated problems with frozen pipes and broken water mains. Please see attached briefing for further details regarding the upcoming storm and dangerous cold.
