NWS Albany - Severe Thunderstorms & Heavy Rain Possible Today into Tonight - issued Thursday, July 11 2019 530 AM
Dear Emergency Managers and other partners, An approaching cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms for today into tonight. Some of the thunderstorms could contain damaging wind gusts, especially for areas west of the Hudson River. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of eastern NY within a Marginal to Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms for this afternoon and evening. In addition, thunderstorms may produce locally heavy downpours, which could lead to isolated flash flooding in low lying, urban and poor drainage areas. This potential will be greatest where multiple thunderstorms occur. The Weather Prediction Center has placed much of eastern New York and adjacent western New England within a Marginal Risk for flash flooding for today into tonight. A PDF briefing is attached.
