NWS Albany - Potential for Hazardous Weather This Week - February 5, 2019 - 4:30 AM
*** The information in this email pertains to the following areas only:**** *- In Connecticut: Litchfield County* *- In Massachusetts: Berkshire County* *- In Vermont: Bennington & Windham Counties* *- In New York: Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Ulster, Warren and Washington Counties* *Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,* There remains the potential for hazardous weather this week. *Wednesday evening into Thursday:* A period of freezing rain is expected across the area late Wednesday and Wednesday night. The precipitation will change to all rain in most areas Thursday morning, but could remain freezing rain into Thursday morning across the Adirondacks, southern Green Mountains and Berkshires. Many locations could receive a tenth to a quarter inch of ice during this time frame. While there still remains some uncertainty with this system, it looks like Winter Weather Advisories will be needed. *Thursday - Friday:* Periods of above freezing temperatures, snow melt and rain will lead to rises on area rivers. Although river flows are not expected to reach flood levels on their own, river rises may be enough to cause some ice break up and movement which could lead to some localized ice jam flooding.
