Good morning,
A strong cold front will bring scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and strong gusty winds Tuesday into Wednesday. It will also bring with it a shot of unseasonably colder air and wind chills Tuesday night.
Headlines:
- Gale Watch: For all waters except Narragansett Bay and Boston Harbor. In effect Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday evening.
Details:
Gusty Winds: Tuesday into Wednesday
- Timing: South winds through Tuesday afternoon. West-northwest winds Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Strongest winds expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, decreasing later Wednesday afternoon.
- Peak Wind Gusts:
- Tuesday: 25-40 mph.
- Tuesday Night - Wednesday: 35-50 mph.
- Impacts: Scattered tree and powerline damage, especially Tuesday night into Wednesday. The winds combined with temperatures in the 20s to low 30s on Tuesday night to produce wind chills in the teens to lower 20s Tuesday night for outdoor operations.
- Confidence: Moderate to high on wind gust speeds, lower confidence on the coverage of wind gusts over 45 mph, and on the end timing to the higher gusts.
* Note: Wind Advisories may be needed to address gusty winds if confidence increases in
the coverage of stronger wind gusts.*
Thunderstorms - Some Strong to Severe: Tuesday Afternoon into Early Evening
- Timing: Between 1 to 8 PM Tuesday.
- Thunderstorm Coverage: Scattered.
- Threats: Capable mainly of heavy downpours, lightning, small hailstones and gusty winds 35-50 mph. Low risk of severe storms that may produce hail up to 1" in diameter and wind gusts capable of causing sporadic tree and powerline damage.
- Confidence: Higher confidence in the timing. Lower confidence on severe storm coverage. Storms may tend more in the "strong" category than severe, and not every town will see thunderstorms.
Attached graphics include the peak wind gusts Tuesday night into Wednesday, and the Severe Weather Outlook for Tuesday.
Thank You!
