Good morning.

Attached is our briefing package on the current wet snow event for Today.  We have issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Sunday evening to Monday morning storm; we have also included graphics for our snowfall forecast and "Onset" graphic for that storm.  Lastly, please stay tuned for additional emails and another possible conference call sometime later today.

Today:

What
- Wet Snow with accumulations of 2 to 6 inches across most of the region with 4 to 8 inches across Southeast MA.  Lower amounts forecast on Cape Cod where some rain and sleet may be mixed in at times.

Where:
- All of southern New England with the heaviest snow expected across southeast MA into Rhode Island.

When:
- Snow develops from south to north this morning. Heaviest snow expected from 7 AM through 1 PM with 1 inch per hour snowfall rates across RI and SE MA.  Lighter snowfall continues this afternoon.

Potential Impacts/Uncertainty:
High confidence in a plowable snowfall for much of the region.
- Main uncertainty is if higher snowfall amounts are realized, increasing the risk for isolated to scattered power outages. Greatest risk for this is across southeast MA and RI.
- Lower confidence in snowfall amounts across the Cape and Islands with snow potentially mixing with rain and sleet.

Sunday Evening Into Mid Morning Monday:

Changes:
  • A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for all except coastal areas.
What:
  • Accumulation of 6 to 12 inches possible north and west of the Boston-Providence corridor. Lesser amounts to the south and east.
  • Impacts to the Monday morning commute especially across the interior.
  • Risk for isolated to scattered power outages from northern CT into northwest RI and interior MA if higher snow amounts are realized.
Where:
  • Greatest risk for significant snow will be northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor, but significant snow is still possible in the Boston to Providence corridor depending on the exact track.
When:
  • Snow develops between 5 and 8 pm Sunday evening and will be heavy at times during the overnight hours.
  • Snow may change to rain across portions of coastal and southeastern MA and RI depending on the exact track.
  • Precipitation tapers off by mid morning Monday

Uncertainty:
  • Forecast models have moved closer to each other and favor a storm passing off the coast. There remains some uncertainty on placement of the rain-snow line as the forecast tracks shift, but less uncertainty than in previous forecasts.
  • Forecast confidence should further increase this afternoon and tonight.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  We have briefing package update by 6 pm this evening.

Thank You
