Good morning,
We wanted to provide awareness of slick and icy roadways from light accretion of freezing rain and sleet overnight tonight to early Friday afternoon. This may cause slick roads for the Friday morning commute.
Winter Weather Advisories may be needed in forthcoming updates if coverage of freezing rain proves greater than spotty.
Light Wintry Mix:
Locations: Mainly near and north of the Massachusetts Turnpike.
Timing: Overnight Tonight into early Friday afternoon.
To better show approximate timing, a weather type image animation is attached which shows the precipitation type transitions through time. Individual images used to create the below GIF animation are also attached to this e-mail for reference.
Amounts: Trace to up to a couple hundreths of ice, amounting to a light glaze. Any sleet accumulation is negligible.
Impact: Roads may become slick, and lead to travel difficulties with impact to the Friday morning commute.
Confidence: Moderate to high on precipitation types, closer to moderate on expected ice accumulations. Though the area threatened by freezing rain is fairly broad, freezing rain in any area may prove quite light and spotty in nature. This is likely to significantly limit ice amounts and coverage.
