Good afternoon,

You will find attached the latest update on Tropical Storm Isaias. We are still expecting Isaias to impact Southern New England as a low-end tropical storm.

Threats:
  • Potential for 3-4" heavy rain with localized 6" in Western MA and Northern CT, especially over the Berkshires. Biggest risk is urban flooding but if rainfall exceeds 4", small stream flooding could also occur. Lesser rainfall is expected in Eastern MA and RI.
  • Strong winds with gusts 40-50 mph and low risk of 60 mph gusts could lead to downed trees and power outages.
  • Dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding, especially for South-facing beaches.
Timing:
Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. However, initial bands of moderate rainfall could impact Western MA as early as Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

Confidence:
Confidence is moderate. However, a slight shift in track will have significant implications on the axis of heavy rain and tropical storm force winds.

Thanks,
Meteorologists Rodney Chai and Glenn Field
