Good morning everyone.
Here is an updated briefing on wintry weather that is expected to impact our region for the Thursday morning commute. Details still need to be ironed out on the timing of the precipitation change over.
Changes since the previous update:
System moving in a tad bit quicker than previously forecast. Onset time now around 9 PM Wednesday to 1 AM Thursday roughly from southwest to northeast.
Timing:
- Precipitation begins between 9 PM Wednesday to 1 AM Thursday.
- Will start off as snow or a wintry mix
- Sleet, freezing rain and rain will spread north from the south coast across the rest of southern New England toward the Thursday morning commute
- Wintry mix will change over to rain from mid to late morning on Thursday
- The wintry mix may linger across interior MA and northern CT into the early afternoon
- Rain continues Thursday night
Impacts:
- Slick morning commute expected across southern New England
Potential Snow/Ice Accumulations:
- Snow accumulations of a dusting to 3 inches, with the greatest risk for snow in northern MA and the east slopes of the Berkshires
- Ice accretion of a few hundredths up to one tenth of an inch possible.
Uncertainty:
- Along and southeast of the Boston to Providence corridor, the potential exists for a brief wintry mix at the onset but will likely be short lived with a change to rain.
- Confidence is lower as to whether or not there is any snow at the onset, or if precipitation begins as just sleet and freezing rain.
- The potential of exceeding one tenth of an inch of ice accretion is low at this time.
Thank You
