Good afternoon,

Following is this afternoon's updated weather briefing regarding rounds of heavy rain and the related potential for flooding.

There were overall no significant changes. However, with the weekend nearly upon us and with conditions favoring a potentially substantial amount of rain forecast for Sunday, we would ask to keep your situation awareness high for the Sunday and Sunday night timeframe for a renewed potential for rapid-onset flash flooding, urban and street flooding along with rises on larger rivers and smaller creeks and streams.

For the rest of today and tonight, after a welcomed break this afternoon, we expect another round of heavy showers and thunderstorms developing over eastern New York to move into Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island tonight into the overnight. Ground and soil conditions are saturated and persistent downpours from thunderstorms may trigger flooding.

Saturday looks to offer less rain and thunderstorm chances with anticipated rain chances appearing to be no worse than scattered.

On Sunday, a slow-moving cold front will be interacting with an exceedingly humid & moisture-rich air. Multiple rounds of slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are possible, with a significant Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall forecast for Sunday. We expect rain to be the heaviest during the first part of the day in interior sections of Connecticut and Massachusetts, then anticipated to progress slowly eastward late Sunday into Sunday night into eastern sections of Massachusetts and Connecticut and all of Rhode Island. A Flood Watch may be needed again on Sunday and/or Sunday night.
