[2023.09.21 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Long Duration Rain Event This Weekend into Early Next Week
Good afternoon, An area of low pressure over the Carolina coast is forecast to move northward this weekend and then move offshore early next week. This system is forecast to bring a period of steady rain to Southern New England this weekend into early next week. The greatest impact from this weather system is from heavy rain. We do not anticipate the torrential kind of rain that was experienced in several heavy rain events this summer - but rather a long-duration, steady rain which adds up over time. Even so, as rain falls and adds up, instances of street flooding as well as rises on mainstem rivers and creeks are still possible. At this time, we expect rain to fall heavy at times on Saturday, with a lighter to moderate rain on Sunday and Monday. Exact rain amounts and how long rain may last are still uncertain and subject to further adjustments. We've attached a one-page briefing, the Excessive Rain Outlook from the Weather Prediction Center for Saturday, as well as our current best estimate for rain totals Saturday and Sunday. Expect the next update to this briefing to be sent by 6 AM Friday. Thank You!
