Good morning, Following is an update regarding the potential for severe thunderstorms in portions of Southern New England this afternoon. We do want to mention that an initial round of widely scattered thunderstorms could develop during the morning hours, approximately 9 AM to noontime. These storms, if they develop, are not expected to rise to the level of producing severe weather, although lightning and passing heavy downpours are still possible. The greatest potential for severe thunderstorms today is this afternoon to early evening, between 2-8 PM, and largely confined to central and western Massachusetts and portions of northern Connecticut. All severe weather hazards are possible in severe thunderstorms today, including damaging straight line winds, large hail, and a low chance for a tornado. Because of the cloud cover around, the risk for severe weather this afternoon in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island is low, but we'll be closely monitoring for any changes. Expect this to be the last weather briefing, unless there are significant changes which would warrant otherwise. Thank You!
