Good afternoon, everyone: We continue to monitor the potential for freezing rain and sleet late Wednesday into Thursday morning. The main area at risk for icing will be mainly away from the immediate coastline, although there will be some risk for icing near the coast, too. We will include a brief outline of expectations and also attach an image showing potential ice accretion amounts. *WHAT: * - Freezing rain. possibly mixed with sleet. *WHERE: * - Mainly northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor, and especially across the interior high terrain of Massachusetts. *WHEN: * - The threat for icing will be mainly Wednesday night into Thursday morning. While exact timing remains uncertain, it appears that the icing potential will occur after the Wednesday evening commute but may impact the Thursday morning rush hour. *IMPACTS:* - The main concern remains the potential for icy roads Wednesday night into Thursday morning, especially across the higher terrain of Massachusetts. *UNCERTAINTY: * - High confidence that a period of icing impacts the higher terrain of Massachusetts. - Greater uncertainty exists on whether a period of icing impacts the lower elevations near the Boston to Providence to Hartford corridor. - Ice accretion amounts are uncertain, but odds of exceeding one quarter of an inch anywhere in southern New England are low at this time. Therefore, the threat for tree damage and scattered power outages is also rather low. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
