Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,
Thunderstorms capable of damaging winds are the primary weather hazard
today through Thursday. Read below for details.
*This Afternoon into Early this Evening:*
We continue to monitor isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon.
While most of not been severe, a few have produced gusty winds and heavy
rain. We will continue to monitor thunderstorms through this evening and
issue Special Weather Statements and, if needed, any isolated Severe
Thunderstorm Warnings. We do not anticipate widespread severe weather.
*Wednesday August 7, 2019*
A more favorable set-up for severe weather arrives tomorrow. The potential
thunderstorms and severe weather exists mainly from midday through
Midnight. The Storm Prediction Center has placed eastern NY and western New
England in a "Marginal Risk" for severe weather. Damaging winds will again
be the primary concern.
Besides the potential for damaging winds, thunderstorms on Wednesday will
also be capable of heavy rainfall that may lead to to ponding of water in
low lying, urban and poor drainage areas. An isolated flash flood is
possible and the latest Excessive Rainfall graphic has a "Marginal Risk"
for our entire region to exceed flash flood guidance.
*Thursday August 8, 2019*
Scattered thunderstorms could occur once again Thursday afternoon and
evening, some of which could contain strong wind gusts
