Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,
Our winter storm is exiting this morning but sleet and ice accumulations
from overnight freezing rain and wintry mix will lead to hazardous
traveling and walking conditions this morning, including the commute. Sleet
accumulations on top of snow means shoveling and clean-up efforts will be
even more difficult. Exiting snow showers this morning may lead to an
additional coatings to 0.5" of snow, mainly north of I-90.
Another round of snow showers and potential snow squalls are expected this
afternoon, especially in the Adirondacks, Mohawk Valley and Upper Hudson
Valley, with an additional coating to one inch of snow expected. Snow
squalls will lead to brief whiteout conditions. Winds will also turn gusty
this afternoon, reaching 30 to 40mph. These strong winds will lead to
reduced visibility in any snow showers or squalls. Temperatures are
expected to warm above freezing today. High temperatures should be reached
by late morning/early afternoon and range from the mid 30s to low 40s
(remaining near freezing in the Adirondacks and Green Mountains).
Lake effect snow is expected to impact Herkimer and Hamilton County
starting this evening and continuing overnight with total accumulations
ranging 2 to 4 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory may be issued later today
to address this threat.
