Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,

An Arctic cold front will pass through the region this afternoon. A narrow
line of snow squalls will move west to east ahead of this boundary, which
will allow for brief, whiteout conditions and slippery travel conditions.
Although total snow amounts won't be high today, very low visibility and
gusty winds may accompany any snow squall making for hazardous travel.

Strong gusty winds will develop this afternoon, lasting into this evening.
Westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph may bring down large
tree limbs and some trees. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Mohawk
and Schoharie Valleys, Capital District, eastern Catskills, mid Hudson
Valley, Taconics, Berkshires, Litchfield Hills, and southern Vermont.

Behind the front, a bitterly cold air mass will move into the region for
late today and persist through Friday. The combination of the cold
temperatures and winds will produce dangerously low wind chill values,
especially tonight through Thursday morning. Wind Chill Values will reach
as low as 15 to 35 below zero. Wind Chill Advisories and Wind Chill
Warnings are in effect for the entire region for late today through
Thursday morning.

In addition, heavy lake effect snowfall is expected for the western
Adirondacks tonight through Thursday night. Winter Storm Warning is in
effect for northern Herkimer County & Winter Weather Advisory is in effect
for Hamilton County for late today through Thursday night. Up to 15 inches
of snow is possible in extreme northern Herkimer County.
