Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,
After a chilly weekend, we are closely monitoring a coastal system that may
lead to freezing rain and/or sleet late Sunday night into Monday. Air
temperatures Sunday night should fall into the upper 20s to near 32 degrees
so freezing rain may result in a coating of ice on any untreated surfaces
and adversely impact the Monday morning commute. The highest confidence in
freezing rain occurring is in western New England including the Berkshires
in western Massachusetts and Litchfield County, CT. There is less
confidence in freezing rain occurring west of the Hudson River.
Temperatures during the day Monday should gradually warm into the mid-30s
allowing wintry mix to become mainly rain. The one exception may be the
Greens, Adirondacks, and Catskills where wintry mix may continue. By
sunset, rain could turn back to a wintry mix before ending early Tuesday.
The main uncertainty with this event is not temperatures but rather if our
region will experience precipitation. If the coastal low tracks further out
to sea, our region may stay mainly dry.
