[Weather] [2019.12.18 AM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Scattered Snow Squalls and Bitter Cold Wind Chills

Good morning,
We continue to expect scattered snow squalls to impact southern New England
this afternoon/evening, followed by bitter cold wind chills overnight.
Details below:
*What Has Changed:*
- A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for the slopes of the Berkshires
overnight into Thursday morning.
- A Wind Advisory is in effect for Cape Cod and the islands from 7 PM
this evening through 10 AM Thursday morning.
- A Freezing Spray Advisory is in effect for Nantucket Sound, Cape Cod
Bay, Massachusetts Bay, and Ipswich Bay from 1 AM to 10 AM Thursday
morning.
*Isolated to Scattered Snow Squalls:*
*Locations*: All locations.
*Timing*: Wednesday afternoon into early evening.
*Amounts*: A quick coating to half an inch in less than 30 minutes.
*Impact*: Temporarily reduced visibility could catch drivers off guard,
especially for early evening commute. Also, roads could become snow-covered
quickly, resulting in slippery travel.
*Confidence*: Low to moderate. Areal extent of snow squalls will be limited
with many locations likely remaining dry. Best chance of snow squalls will
be in the interior.
*Bitter Cold/Very Low Wind Chills:*
*Locations*: All locations.
*Timing*: Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
*Amounts*: Wind chill values -5 to -20°F across the interior, and zero to
-5°F across eastern MA and RI.
*Impact*: Coldest air of the season. Bitter cold wind chills for school bus
stops.
*Confidence*: High. Wind Chill Advisory is in effect.
*Potential risk of freezing spray:*
*Locations*: Immediate coastal waters off Eastern MA and RI.
*Timing*: Wednesday night into early Thursday morning.
*Amounts*: Light to moderate freezing spray possible.
*Impact*: Glaze of ice possible on boats and ships traversing the waters.
*Confidence*: Moderate overall, highest risk across the nearshore waters. A
Freezing Spray Advisory is in effect.
