Good afternoon everyone,
We continue to monitor a low pressure which will bring a period of snow,
changing to rain for most, then back to snow late Tuesday into Wednesday.
Due to uncertainty in how far inland the change to rain will penetrate, it
is still difficult to determine snowfall amounts. We have included a first
cut at the best and worst case scenarios, as well as an updated map of our
current precipitation type expectations. Have higher confidence in a
transition to rain across the eastern half of southern New England. Greater
uncertainty with snowfall totals across the interior. We are still not
certain how far inland the mixing line will get.
*What:*
- A storm system, moving along the northeast coast.
- Potential for a period of snow, with a risk for total snowfall
reaching Winter Storm criteria for some, especially across the western
higher terrain.
- Low risk for a period of ice and gusty winds.
*Where:*
- The highest risk for significant snowfall will be across northern and
western portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut, with lower amounts
toward the southeast coast.
- Risk for icing and strongest winds highest across Rhode Island and
Southeastern MA.
*When:*
- Beginning as mainly snow late Tuesday
- Potential for a change to ice (with some snow continuing) early
Wednesday morning.
- Rain may change back to snow with additional accumulations possible
Wednesday morning
- Mostly done by Wednesday afternoon
- Low risk for impact to Tuesday evening commute, higher risk for
Wednesday morning commute.
*When we will know more:*
- We will begin to highlight details over the next 36 hours.
