[Weather] [2020-04-13 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing for Damaging Winds/Thunderstorms Today

Good afternoon,

A strong storm continues to impact the region today. This is already
bringing damaging winds and will continue to do so. In addition, isolated
thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected. This may lead to some urban
flooding potential.

*Changes in the latest update:*

Decreased maximum wind gusts north and west of Worcester. Otherwise the
forecast remains on track.

The graphics attached below are the maximum wind gusts expected and the
storm total precipitation.

*Headlines:*


   -   *High Wind Warning *for all of  southern New England except Franklin
   County Massachusetts until early tonight.
   -   *Wind Advisory* for Franklin County Massachusetts from until early
   tonight.
   -   *Storm Warning *in effect for the ocean waters into this evening.

*Damaging Winds:*

   - Wind gusts of 55-70 mph out of the south. Period of peak gusts roughly
   from 3-6 PM.
   - Highest speeds expected across the South Coast, Rhode Island and
      southeast Massachusetts.

*Heavy Rain:*

   - Storm total rainfall of 1-2 inches. Isolated amounts up to 3 inches
   where any thunderstorms move through.

*Thunderstorms**:*

   -  Low risk of an isolated thunderstorm this afternoon into early this
   evening.
   - Some storms may become severe bringing damaging winds.

*Impacts:*

   - Scattered to widespread power outages due to downed trees, tree limbs
   and power lines. Difficult travel for high profile vehicles.
   - Heavy rain may cause brief localized urban and poor drainage flooding.
