[Weather] NWS Boston EM Briefing - 11 AM update: Tropical Storm Henri

Hi all,

Here is a quick update regarding Tropical Storm Henri.

Henri continues to weaken with maximum sustained winds now of 60 mph.  The
highest gust reported so far has been 70 mph at Point Judith by a mesonet
site, with 65 mph at the Block Island Jetty.  Henri passed near Block
Island and will make landfall in a couple of hours near Westerly, RI.  It
will continue northwest and rapidly decay over western MA tonight.

Storm surge has been around 2 ft and we are now coming down from the high
tide.  We expect that winds turn southerly tonight and the high tide on the
south coast could still cause some areas of coastal flooding, as the water
will not have evacuated.  The surge along the east coast could be 1 to 1.5
feet, which could cause a few roads to be closed...and a Coastal Flood
Advisory is in effect from Plymouth northward to the NH border.

Heavy rain remains the biggest concern, with 4 to 8 inches expected, with
local 10 inch amounts in northern CT and western MA.  The last of the rain
bands was working through eastern MA at this time.

Wind gusts up to 60 mph will continue to cause damage in RI for a few more
hours; winds may gust to 30-40 mph elsewhere into the afternoon hours, but
winds everywhere will be diminishing after about 8 or 9 pm this evening.

Rain is expected to continue tomorrow, especially in western areas.
