[Weather] [2025.12.28 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Freezing Rain Tonight to Early Monday

Good afternoon,

Following is an update on a freezing rain event expected to affect Southern
New England tonight into early on Monday.

*Changes Since Last Briefing*: Winter Weather Advisory expanded to include
all of Rhode Island (except Block Island) as well as Bristol and western
Plymouth Counties in Massachusetts.

Icy roads, bridges/overpasses and sidewalks will be the main hazard tonight
into early Monday, with impacts to the Monday morning commute. The
potential for tree and powerline damage will also exist in portions of the
CT River and Merrimack Valleys, where ice accumulations look to be more
significant (up to a quarter-inch).

We've attached an updated one-page briefing, along with updated forecast
icing accumulations and updated winter weather advisory areas.

Finally, we do want to mention that we are expecting a period of strong
west wind gusts to develop Monday night and continuing into Tuesday, which
could hamper recovery and restoration efforts. We have included a graphic
of forecast wind gusts within this e-mail briefing for your planning and
awareness, which show wind gusts in the 35-50 mph range. We would then
issue a separate e-mail briefing if wind gusts were to rise to the level of
needing wind headlines.

Expect this to be *the final briefing* for this freezing rain event unless
there are substantial changes that would warrant otherwise.
