A winter storm watch has been issued from 1 PM Tuesday - 7 AM Wednesday for the Greater Capital Region, northern and central Taconics, Washington, eastern Greene, and western Columbia Counties in NY, southern VT and the Berkshires of MA. A light to moderate snowfall is possible late TUE pm into Tuesday night for the mid Hudson Valley, southern Taconics, and Litchfield County CT. A Winter Weather Advisory may be needed later in time. A bitterly cold air mass will move into the region Wednesday afternoon and persist through Friday. The combination of the frigid temperatures and winds will produce dangerous to life threatening wind chills Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and also Thursday night into Friday morning. This will likely cause some isolated problems with frozen pipes and broken water mains. In addition, heavy lake effect snow is possible for the western Adirondacks late Wednesday night into Friday.
