Good morning everyone, The primary change with this morning's forecast update is the issuance of a Coastal Flood Advisory for south coastal RI through Buzzards Bay MA. This is for the high tide this morning, around 10AM/11AM. Attached you will find the latest briefing package highlighting the forecast impacts of flooding, strong to damaging winds, and hazardous sea conditions. Rain continues to overspread this morning, with the heaviest falling mid morning to late afternoon. *What / Where / When ... * - *Periods of heavy rain, potential for flash flooding ... FLASH FLOOD WATCH in effect (through late tonight)* - For all of S New England, especially S&E areas. - Rain continues to overspread this morning - Forecast 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, locally higher amounts. - Lingering snow and ice melt will add to this issue, along with any clogged drains. - Snow cover and/or hardened ground, any and all rain likely to runoff. - Urban / poor drainage flooding, potential for flooded basements. - Minor river flooding possible. - *Strong to damaging winds, potential for downed limbs, trees, power outages* - *HIGH WIND WARNING *for SE-coastal MA & RI (9 am to 7 pm). - *WIND ADVISORY *for E-coastal MA & N RI (9 am to 5 pm). - Strongest mid morning into afternoon, gusts up to 60 mph. - For all of Southern New England especially S&E areas of MA & CT, as well as all of RI. - *Gales winds and high seas ... GALE WARNINGS posted on all waters (1 am to 9 pm)* - Strongest winds Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon; gusts up to 50 knots. - Highest seas Thursday afternoon; seas up to 20 feet. - *Minor Coastal Flooding Possible* - South Coastal RI and MA - Around time of high tide (10AM/11AM) - Pockets of minor coastal flooding/splashover possible. - Coastal Flood Statement issued for RI/S coastal MA. *Uncertainty ... * - We remain confident concerning the heavy rain and flooding threat. - However we have lower confidence concerning the exact strength of strong to damaging winds. - Whether we see 40 to 50 mph gusts versus 50 to 60 mph gusts in those areas under wind-related headlines.
