Dear Emergency Managers and other Partners,
A large storm system will bring a widespread moderate to potentially heavy
rainfall Thursday night into Friday night. The rainfall coupled with some
snow melt in the higher terrain may produce some minor river flooding and
urban/poor drainage flooding. A Flood Watch has been issued for all of
eastern New York and western New England. Current forecast rainfall totals
are mainly in the 1 to 2.5 inch range with locally higher totals south and
east of the Greater Capital Region, especially over the southeast-facing
slopes of the Catskills, Greens, and Berkshires.
In addition, strong east to southeast gusty winds are also possible over
the higher terrain of eastern New York and western New England, especially
above 2000' elevation. A wind headline may be needed Thursday night into
Friday if confidence increases.
Finally, a brief period of light freezing rain cannot be ruled out at the
onset of the precipitation Thursday night over the southern Adirondacks,
but it should turn to plain rain through the night.
