*Dear Emergency Managers and other partners,*
*Tonight into Thursday:* Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for
much of eastern New York and western New England. A period of freezing rain
is occurring across the region tonight through Thursday morning. The
commutes this evening and Thursday morning will be impacted. The
precipitation will change to all rain over most areas late tonight into
Thursday morning. Many locations in the higher elevations could receive a
tenth to a quarter inch of ice during this time frame.
*Thursday - Friday:* Periods of above freezing temperatures, snow melt and
rain will lead to rises on area rivers. Although river flows are not
expected to reach flood levels on their own, river rises may be enough to
cause some ice break up and movement which could lead to some localized ice
jam flooding.
A cold front will track through the region Friday. Behind the cold front
winds will shift to the west and northwest and become strong and gusty.
Wind gusts could exceed 40 mph and wind advisories may be needed if
stronger winds are expected.
Please see attached briefing for further details on the freezing rain
potential tonight into Thursday.
