Good afternoon everyone.
Light snow has pushed into SW Connecticut this afternoon, which will shift
eastward this evening. Please read the details below.
*What has changed:*
- No changes to the previous e-mail. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY remains in
effect from 7 PM this evening until 7 AM Thursday.
*WHAT: *
- Minor snow and sleet accumulations followed by a period of freezing rain.
*WHERE: *
- All of southern New England. While most of the freezing rain will be
confined to the interior, there will be a brief period of freezing rain
along the immediate coast tonight.
*WHEN:*
- Snow will push across the Hartford/Springfield areas by 6 PM, which will
impact the latter half of the evening commute.
- In the Boston to Providence corridor, the snow will begin by about 7 to 8
PM.
- Expect the snow to change to sleet then freezing rain from SW to NE
between 9 PM and 1 AM. The change to rain along the coast and portions of
northern RI and SE Massachusetts should occur between 3 AM and 6 AM.
- Precipitation ends Thursday morning, but patchy freezing rain/drizzle may
linger in the interior and impact the morning commute. Temperatures near
and below freezing Thursday morning will result in slippery travel, mainly
north and west of the Providence to Boston corridor.
*POTENTIAL IMPACTS:*
*- *Main concern: Icing on untreated roads and sidewalks tonight into the
Thursday morning commute.
- Ice accretion amounts should be no more than one tenth of an inch, so the
risk for tree damage and power outages remains low.
*UNCERTAINTY:*
- Exact timing of the snow arrival may still shift by an hour or two either
way, so there remains a low chance that it could impact the latter half of
the Boston-Providence commute.
- Freezing temperatures may linger during the morning commute across the
Boston metro area, but it is much more likely northwest of Boston.
Please let us know if you have an questions or concerns.
