[Weather] [2020.03.05 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing for Wind and High Waves Friday night and Saturday

Good afternoon,
A strong ocean storm will pass well southeast of Nantucket Friday night and
Saturday morning. This will bring strong winds to coastal areas especially
along Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket. Ocean areas will have
strong winds and high seas.
The wind may combine with light snow accumulation on the Cape and Islands
as well as coastal Plymouth County. This would create slick travel Friday
night into Saturday morning. Actual snow amounts will range from a coating
to 2 inches.

- *High Wind Watch *for Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties Friday
Evening through Saturday Morning
- *Wind Advisory* for Block Island, Southern and Eastern Plymouth County
Friday Evening through Saturday Morning
- *Storm and Gale Watches* in effect for the ocean waters Friday Evening
into Saturday
*What: *
- North winds of 20 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph.
- Tides running about 2 feet above normal.
*When: *
- Highest wind gusts expected Friday night into Saturday morning.
- Highest wave heights are expected Saturday morning.
*Impacts:*
- Tree limbs and power lines may be blown down that could cause damage
along with power outages.
- Splashover near the time of high tide Saturday may cause coastal
erosion.
*Confidence:*
- Forecast winds may increase depending on the track of the low.
- If the storm tracks closer to the coast then speeds would be higher
and stronger winds would push further inland
- If the storm pushes further offshore lesser winds would be expected
Expect another updated briefing no later than 5 AM Friday morning.
