All,
Just wanted to send out a final update with regard to the heavy rainfall
that we saw today. The last of the showers and thunderstorms will dissipate
this evening, however all of the rainfall that fell will be working its way
through rivers for the next few days. In particular, the Connecticut River
is at most risk as all of the rain that has fallen across Vermont and New
Hampshire comes downstream.
Attached is a depiction of the flood categories that are forecast to occur
at the various river gauge locations across southern New England as of 520
pm. Please refer to this website for the most up to date information:
https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/forecasts.php?wfo=box In particular, the
dark red colors indicate a forecast for reaching major flood stage.
For the Connecticut River, flood stage will be reached later this evening
closer to the VT border and later Tuesday morning down around Hartford.
Major flood stage is forecast to be reached after midnight near the VT
border and not until later Tuesday in the Hartford area. Please note that
it won't be until the end of the week before the river falls below flood
stage.
These river forecasts will be updated later this evening and overnight by
the forecasters at the Northeast River Forecast Center, and we expect to
issue additional river flood warnings as those forecasts are updated.
Again, please refer to the web page I included above for the most up to
date information.
Andy Nash & Bill Leatham.
