[Weather] [2024.03.22 AM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Heavy Rainfall and Possible Flooding

BOX Operations - NOAA Service Account box.operations at noaa.gov
Fri Mar 22 08:44:56 UTC 2024

Good morning,

Here is the updated briefing for the storm which will be impacting the
region late tonight into Saturday night. Heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches
with locally higher amounts will bring the potential for urban and poor
drainage flooding as well as some river flooding, especially Saturday
afternoon and night. Latest forecast information suggests the axis of
heaviest rain will set up south of the MA Pike, especially across CT and
RI. The greatest risk for river flooding is in Rhode Island, particularly
the Pawtuxet and Wood River basins.

In addition, a period of wintry precipitation on the front end late tonight
will bring minor snow and/or ice accumulation for interior MA into portions
of NW CT.

A Flood Watch has been issued for areas along and south of the MA Pike,
including CT, RI and eastern MA. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued
for central/W MA into NW CT for the combination of light snow and/or light
ice accumulation.

In addition to the one pager briefing, we have attached various graphics
for snow and ice accumulation, expected rainfall amounts and flood watch
and winter weather advisory areas.

Thanks.
Kevin Cadima and Torry Dooley
