This system will bring a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain tonight into early Sunday morning before changing over to all rain. Up to an inch of snow/sleet and a glaze of freezing rain is expected, which will make for slippery travel and hazardous walking conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the region from 9 pm tonight to 7 AM Sunday. Additionally, strong to damaging winds are expected Sunday evening into Monday evening across much of the region. A High Wind Watch is in effect for most of the area, as wind gusts may reach up to 60 mph. This could result in downed trees and power lines. Also, lake effect snow may produce light accumulations to portions of northern Herkimer and northwest Hamilton counties late Sunday night into Monday night. Dear Emergency Managers and other partners, A low pressure system will approach the area late Saturday into Sunday. This system will bring a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain Saturday night into early Sunday morning before changing over to all rain. If confidence in ice accretion increases, a Winter Weather Advisory would be issued. Additionally, strong to damaging winds are expected Sunday evening into Monday evening across much of the region. At this time, a *High Wind Watch *has been issued for the western Adirondacks, western & central Mohawk Valley, Schoharie Valley, Helderbergs & eastern Catskills. Additional wind headlines will likely be needed. Also, Lake Effect snow may produce light to moderate accumulations to portions of northern Herkimer and northwest Hamilton counties late Sunday night into Monday night.
