[2019.02.08 PM NWS Briefing] Strong to Damaging Winds into Saturday Morning
Good afternoon everyone, The primary issue in the near term remains the strong to damaging winds across the region tonight into Saturday: - Wind Advisories continue for all of Southern New England through Saturday afternoon. - Sustained W-NW winds of 20-30 mph with gusts as high as 50 mph are expected. - Strongest winds will be experienced in the higher terrain, the Berkshires/Litchfield Hills, Worcester Hills, as well as along the E MA shorelines. - Expecting the strongest gusts around daybreak into mid morning Saturday. - Scattered tree and branch damage expected along with a risk for power outages. For Mariners, Gale Warnings continue with gusts 45-50 kt and offshore seas around 10ft. Note that the included images are only regarding these winds, not the storm discussed below. We are also monitoring a mixed precipitation winter storm for Tuesday into early Wednesday. Note that there is still some uncertainty, but here are a few things we are watching for: - Starting as a period of at least moderate snowfall around mid day Tuesday. - Gradual change to a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain from south to north during the late afternoon and evening hours Tuesday. - Some locations across the interior may remain all snow for the whole duration. - The Tuesday afternoon commute will be the most impacted, with the storm ending during the Wednesday morning commute.
