Good Morning Everyone,
In addition to the briefing email sent this morning, we wanted to reiterate
that we are expecting a high impact, multi-faceted severe weather event for
southern New England this afternoon. In fact, we anticipate that this will
be the highest impact severe event we have experienced certainly this
summer, if not in the last few years.
There are several hazards in play today including:
- The possibility for brief tornadoes. While a risk of just "5%" may
seem low, it is actually about ~25x greater than a typical July day
- Straight line wind damage
- Flooding rains; some areas of southern New England have 1 hour flash
flood guidance of just ~1.5"!
The potential for these hazards extends across much of southern New
England, with the greatest risk for tornadoes highest across the
interior, though the potential exists anywhere. Those with outdoor plans
today should heed extra caution, as conditions may change quickly.
Attached is a loop simulating ONE potential look at how things will develop
this afternoon. Keep in mind that this simulation may not be exact.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We are more than
happy to assist!
