A few have already exceeded flood stage and we have issued flood warnings for those river points. Our Flood Watch remain in effect for this region until 1AM tonight. Eastern NY and western New England will stay mild tonight but we are closely monitoring an area of showers and thunderstorms in western NY and PA that may move into our region overnight. Any thunderstorm will be capable of producing heavy downpours which may lead to localized poor drainage or urbanized flooding. The rainfall coupled with some snow melt in the higher terrain is expected to produce some minor river flooding and urban/poor drainage flooding. A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of eastern New York and western New England. Current forecast rainfall totals are in the 1 to 3 inch range with locally higher amounts over higher terrain south and east of the Capital District. In addition, strong east to southeast gusty winds are also expected over the higher terrain of eastern New York and western New England, especially above 2000 feet elevation. The rainfall coupled with some snow melt in the higher terrain may produce some minor flooding. If confidence increases for the potential of widespread minor flooding, then a Flood Watch may be issued later in time. A storm system will bring a wintry mix, beginning this morning across southern areas. The precipitation will gradually expand across the remainder of the area by this afternoon. The precipitation will begin as a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain and will transition to mainly snow by this evening before ending overnight. A light accumulation of snow and ice will make roads and walkways slippery. While we are confident on the expected impacts on slippery travel, there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact amounts of snow/ice and duration of specific precipitation types.
