Storms have already developed in western and central NY and are advancing eastward. The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the slight risk for severe weather to cover most of eastern NY and now clips parts of western New England. The main time window for thunderstorm will be 2pm to 10pm with damaging winds likely the main impact from any severe storms. See attached of details. The main threat is damaging wind gusts. Elsewhere, isolated thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon into early evening mainly west of the Hudson Valley. Some of the storms may produce gusty winds. There is also a chance of thunderstorms on Monday. There is a Marginal Risk a few of the storms could become severe, mainly from the Hudson Valley into western New England. Please see attached PDF for graphics of outlook areas. Snow accumulations will be mainly confined to areas above 1000 feet above sea level, with no snow accumulations expected at lower elevations including the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys. However, snowfall accumulations of around an inch will be possible by mid-morning tomorrow above 1000 feet in the Catskills, Helderbergs, Taconics, Berkshires, Green Mountains and Adirondacks, with as much as 4 inches above 2000 feet. Most of the accumulations will be on grassy or elevated surfaces, however some roadways will become slick, especially above 2000 feet. Rainfall totals with this storm will average 0.5 to 1.0 inch across the area, with a little more possible in the Catskills. This is not enough to cause any significant flooding. Rain will mix with or changeover to snow across the higher elevations tonight across the southern Adirondacks, eastern Catskills, northern Berkshires and the southern Green Mountains of Vermont. Wet snow will be seen at elevations above 1500 feet, although accumulations of 1 to 4 inches will generally occur for areas above 2500 feet. Cloudy and chilly weather with additional rain will linger into Tuesday before some improvement in the weather occurs for Wednesday. Attached is our rainfall and snowfall forecasts.
