Dear Emergency Managers and other partners, Dangerous heat conditions will continue through Sunday: - Excessive Heat Warning continues through tonight for the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, mid-Hudson Valley, southern Taconics and Litchfield County. - Heat Advisory is in effect for the rest of the area tonight. - Excessive Heat Warning continues Sunday for eastern Ulster, Dutchess and Litchfield counties. - Heat Advisory is in effect during the day Sunday for much of the rest of the area, except the western Mohawk Valley and southern Adirondacks. The heat wave will come to an end Sunday night and Monday with the passage of a cold front. Highs Monday are forecast to range from the lower 70s to lower 80s. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Saturday for the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys, the southern Taconics and Litchfield County. Heat Advisories will likely be needed for portions of eastern New York and Western New England Friday and Sunday. There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. Any thunderstorms that occur Friday could contain large hail and damaging winds. If damaging thunderstorm winds or lightning cause power outages and a loss of air conditioning, people will be more vulnerable to the dangerous heat. Weather Predication Center has placed a 'Slight Risk' of excessive rainfall along and south of Interstate 90. Please refer to the attached briefing for additional information.
