An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Saturday for the Hudson and Mohawk Valleys, the southern Taconics and Litchfield County. Heat Advisories will likely be needed for portions of eastern New York and Western New England Friday and Sunday. There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. Any thunderstorms that occur Friday could contain large hail and damaging winds. If damaging thunderstorm winds or lightning cause power outages and a loss of air conditioning, people will be more vulnerable to the dangerous heat. Dear Emergency Managers and other partners, An approaching cold front will bring showers and scattered thunderstorms for late this afternoon into tonight. Some of the thunderstorms could contain damaging wind gusts, and frequent lighting especially across eastern NY. The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of eastern NY within a Marginal to Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms late this afternoon and tonight. In addition, thunderstorms may produce locally heavy downpours, which could lead to isolated flash flooding in low lying, urban and poor drainage areas. This potential will be greatest where multiple thunderstorms occur.
