Good afternoon everyone, Attached is our latest and final briefing regarding the winter storm expected to impact southern New England tonight through Tuesday. There have been no major changes since our last update. We expect the bulk of the accumulating snow to end by mid Tue AM. The higher terrain of the Berkshires/Worcester Hills may see an additional 2-4" of snow (included within the storm total snowfall graphic attached) through the day Tuesday. Good morning everyone, Forecast confidence continues to increase for accumulating snow Monday night into Tuesday, with a plowable snowfall for most of the region. Also, confident snow begins *after* the Monday PM commute, along with the heaviest snow occurring late Monday evening and overnight. In addition, forecast confidence is highest for the heaviest snow to fall across western portions of MA/CT, where a winter storm watch has been posted. Forecast confidence is lower on the duration of the steadiest/heaviest snow, which may begin to lessen as early as the Tuesday morning commute. Accumulating snow remains likely Tuesday, but perhaps lighter snowfall rates than Monday night. Also, duration of the snow may be reduced across the coastal plain of RI and MA, as snow may mix with or change to rain Tuesday. Nonetheless, snow covered roads & low visibility Monday night into Tuesday will make for difficult travel, especially during the Tuesday morning commute. We hope to have more clarity on these details in later forecasts, so make sure to check back for updates. Good afternoon everyone, Confidence continues to grow that we will see a winter storm bringing accumulating snow and potential for some wintry mix to southern New England Monday night into Tuesday. While there remains some uncertainty as to the storm's track and strength, a plowable amount of snow is looking likely for most, if not all of the region (see attached snowfall graphic). Timing has been honed in since the last briefing, now looking to begin late Monday night and end during the afternoon/early evening on Tuesday. This means the main impact to travel will be for the Tuesday morning commute; can't rule out precipitation sticking around through the evening commute, but it would be lighter and more scattered in nature. Good afternoon, We are monitoring a potential winter storm that has the potential to bring accumulating snow and/or a wintry mix to Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts Monday night into Tuesday night. The storm's track and strength, and the potential for it to bring a changeover from snow to wintry mix in parts of Southern New England is still uncertain. That uncertainty is too large to provide specifics on snow accumulations. However we wanted to provide you with snowfall probabilities of both 4 inches and 8 inches. Good morning, A strong cold front will be moving through MA, CT & RI early this morning, and accompanied by increasing northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Tree limbs still covered in ice from recent freezing rain (up to a 1/3 of an inch of ice accretion in northern CT Thu), may be more susceptible to being downed by the strong winds. Therefore, a wind advisory has been issued for western & central MA, northern Connecticut and all of RI. Winds are not expected to be quite as strong across eastern MA. Strong northwest winds begin to diminish after sunset Friday, with light winds expected Saturday. Good afternoon, Following is an update to the ongoing wintry mix event currently affecting CT, RI and MA. There has been little to no significant change to that which was briefed this morning. Winter Weather Advisories for the risk of icing, either through light accretions of freezing drizzle/freezing rain or from freeze-up of standing waters or slush, continue in effect tonight. In addition, Wind Advisories continue for the Berkshires due to the risk of strong wind gusts up to 50 mph acting on ice-coated trees and powerlines. Friday evening will also be quite cold, with sub-zero wind chills across areas north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, and between 5 to 10 below zero across the Berkshires. Attached graphics include the additional amounts of icing anticipated this evening, as well as the peak wind gusts for Friday. Good morning, Changes with this forecast update include - - A wind advisory for western MA, including the Berkshires - NW winds Friday with gusts up to 50 mph, combined with possible ice covered trees, will increase the risk for potential power outages (see attached Wind Advisory map) Otherwise, winter weather advisories remain posted through Thursday night for all of MA, RI & CT, except southern portions of RI and MA, where temperatures will remain above freezing. A wintry mix of precipitation across northern MA Thursday morning, with all rain in CT, RI and southeast MA, will taper off to drizzle later this morning and eventually areas of freezing drizzle this afternoon, as temperatures drop below freezing. This will also result in a flash freeze this afternoon and evening, as any standing water or slush freezes, yielding icy travel, especially on untreated roadways and surfaces. Another round of a wintry mix is expected later this evening and overnight, finally giving way to dry weather Friday. Attached is a loop showing hourly temperatures dropping this afternoon and evening. Also, a graphic is included showing the potential for additional icing through tonight.
