Good afternoon, We wanted to send a quick briefing to highlight a dangerously cold airmass which is expected late Friday into Saturday across southern New England. Wind chills are expected to drop to -20 to -40F late Friday night and Saturday morning. Good morning, all: Just a few changes to the forecast this morning. 1. The Flood Watch has been cancelled across southeast MA. The heaviest rainfall has already moved offshore, with the rain ending completely by mid morning. Smaller rivers, creeks and streams will continue to rise this morning, but most are expected to remain in their banks. River Flood Warnings continue across southeast MA and portions of RI. - The Pawtuxet River at Cranston - minor flooding - The Pawcatuck River at Westerly - minor flooding - The Wood River at Hope Valley - minor flooding - The Taunton River at Bridgewater - minor flooding 2. Wind Advisory extended across the Cape and islands. Expecting a brief lull this morning, with another surge of gusty winds up to 45 mph as a cold front moves back across this area later this morning through this afternoon. Elsewhere, gusty winds up to 40 mph are expected, so the Wind Advisory was cancelled across the rest of southeast MA and most of RI. 3. Gale Warnings have been converted to Small Craft Advisories for Boston Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Thank you. NWS Boston EM Briefing: Wed Afternoon Update

Good Afternoon Everyone, Attached is the latest briefing for the storm which is now getting underway. Overall, everything remains on track but we are making the following adjustments: - Snowfall totals have been lowered slightly, especially near the coast. - Wind Advisory will be expanded into more of Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts (statement will be issued within the hour). Here are some key points: - Periods of light snow or flurries will come to an end by 3 PM. - The next round of snow arrives between roughly 4 pm to 7 pm which will bring most of the accumulation from this storm. - A change to rain should occur between 5 pm and 10 pm from south to north. This means the snow should only last a couple of hours for locations south of the Mass Pike, especially for those closer to the South Coast. - Temperatures will slowly rise overnight, reaching the upper 30s to mid 40s across the interior and into the lower 50s in Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. Therefore, we are not concerned with any icing tomorrow morning. This will be the last full briefing for this storm. We may send brief emails tonight or Thursday as needed with updated information. Good Morning Everyone, Based on new information we are lowering snowfall totals slightly from our previous forecast. See the attached graphic for details. Here are some key points: - Periods of light snow or flurries are possible through early this afternoon, especially across the interior. - Accumulating snow arrives between roughly 4 pm to 7 pm. - A changeover to rain should occur between 5 pm and 10 pm from south to north. This means the snow should only last a couple of hours for locations south of the Mass Pike, especially for those closer to the South Coast. - Temperatures will slowly rise overnight, reaching the upper 30s to mid 40s across the interior and into the lower 50s in Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts. Good morning, everyone: The latest briefing package for the upcoming storm is attached. - The main change with this package was to expand the Winter Weather Advisory into Western Essex County. - Still have some concerns for possible Storm Warnings across the outer coastal waters of RI and MA, but not enough confidence to upgrade at this time. - A Wind Advisory may also need to be expanded onto Cape Ann with later forecasts. Again confidence was not high enough to do so at this time. - Coastal flooding is still expected to be minor along portions of the south coast of MA and RI, especially within Narragansett Bay - Minor river flooding is possible, especially along smaller rivers. More details to come, once we get a better handle on how much precipitation actually falls. The main changes with this package are as follows: 1)* Winter Storm Watch Converted to a Winter Weather Advisory and extended just to the northwest of the Boston to Providence Corridor:* - Snow develops Wednesday afternoon - A general 2 to 6" of snow with an impact to the Wednesday Evening Rush Hour. Highest of the snow amounts across the interior - Snow Changes to Rain from south to north...roughly Wednesday between 6 pm and midnight *2) Flood Watch Issued for Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts Wednesday evening into Thursday morning:* * - *Rain will fall heavily at times later Wednesday evening into the overnight hours. - Pockets of street flooding possible along with the potential of some minor Small River/Stream Flooding *3) Wind Advisory Across parts of Southeast CT, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts Late Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning:* * - * A period of 40-50 mph wind gusts expected - Downed tree limbs and power outages possible *4) Coastal Flood Advisory for portions of the CT coast for the Wednesday night high tide cycle.* The next update will be issued by 6 AM Wednesday morning. Good morning, Here is the latest briefing for a low pressure affecting our region Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Still have concerns for both snow and wind impacts. We expect snow developing from SW to NE Wed afternoon, but changing to rain Wed evening and overnight from S to N. The rain-snow line will likely move north of MA around or a few hours after midnight Wed night. The timing of this transition remains uncertain, and will be crucial to snowfall totals. In addition, a period of strong to potentially damaging winds gusts are possible across SE New Eng late Wed night and early Thu. There is also a low risk for minor coastal flooding along the south and east coasts for late Wed night high tide, but this will depend on the maximum storm surge coinciding closely with high tide.
