Just a quick update... the surge is now about 2 feet above the astronomical tide at Nantucket, with about an hour until high tide. Good morning everyone, (corrected subject line) Attached is the final briefing on Hurricane Dorian's impacts on southern New England. Overnight, we have had sustained winds of 42 mph at Wellfleet and gusts from 50 to 63 mph from southern RI to Cape Cod. Up to 2 to 2.5 inches of rain was estimated by radar over Nantucket as of 6 AM with 1 to 2 inches common across the rest of the Cape and Islands. An additional 1 to 2 inches is possible on the outer Cape and Nantucket early this morning, which could cause some poor drainage flooding. There is the possibility of some minor coastal flooding around 8 AM...the time of high tide...at Nantucket Harbor. That's especially true if 2 feet of surge occurs. As of now, the surge was closer to 1.25 feet. The rain will end by noon and the winds will gradually diminish with clearing skies from west to east this afternoon. Good morning everyone, Attached is the final briefing on Hurricane Dorian's impacts on southern New England. The only change was slightly stronger winds a bit further west, but there are no significant changes to the forecast. *Headlines: * -Tropical Storm Warnings for Cape Cod and the Islands as well as adjacent coastal waters. *Period of greatest threat:* - 2 AM Through Noon Saturday. *Locations most at risk*: - Cape Cod and the Islands, as well as the adjacent coastal waters. Highest risk is Nantucket and the coastal waters to the south and east. *Potential Impacts: * *- *Period of 45 to 60 mph wind gusts across Cape Cod and the Islands, strongest over Nantucket. This may result in some downed trees and scattered power outages. - Period of 30 to 45 mph wind gusts across the rest of eastern MA and RI. Given trees are fully leafed, isolated downed trees & isolated power outages are possible. - Heavy rain of 1 to 4 inches across Cape Cod and The Islands. Heaviest rain occurs late night into Saturday morning over Nantucket. Some urban/poor drainage street flooding may occur. - Minor coastal flooding possible between 6 and 10 am for Nantucket Harbor and perhaps some north facing beaches of Cape Cod. *No significant coastal flooding or property damage is expected.* - 45 to 55 knot wind gusts and 15 to 20+ foot seas across the waters east of Cape Cod and south and east of Nantucket. Good evening, Here is the latest information regarding potential impacts from Dorian later this week. No conference calls are planned at this time. We expect to have more details later this week. *Period of greatest Threat:* Friday night into Saturday morning *Locations most at risk*: Cape and islands, as well as the adjacent coastal waters *Confidence*: Moderate confidence overall. Lowest confidence with regards to wind and rainfall impacts. That will depend on the track, size and speed of Dorian. *High *confidence in a rip current threat into Sunday along ocean-exposed, south-facing beaches. Rough surf is expected, too. While an offshore track is most likely, it should be noted the average error the past 5 years for a forecast at this time range is about *75-85 miles.* Should Dorian track farther south and east, the wind and rainfall threats would be reduced. The rip current/rough surf threat is almost a certainty. As of the 5 PM forecast, the wind treat for portions of southern New England has remained nearly steady across the Cape and islands, especially across the outer Cape and Nantucket. The greatest threat remains over the coastal waters south and east of Nantucket. The next scheduled briefing is after the 11 AM Thursday advisory from the National Hurricane Center, unless there is a need for a briefing sooner.
