Good afternoon, Attached is a one-page briefing with details on the current forecast and the challenges we are monitoring. We are closely monitoring the potential for strong to damaging wind gusts as we approach the new year. Wind gusts are now expected to increase by late Wednesday afternoon and persist through Thursday evening, with the strongest winds during the day on Thursday. Confidence is high that all of southern New England will experience gusts of 45 to 55 mph, with isolated gusts up to 60 mph. As a result, a Wind Advisory has been issued for all of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, effective from late Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening. One forecast challenge is the potential for gusts to reach 60 mph in localized areas, including western and central Massachusetts. However, confidence in aerial coverage is currently too low to issue a High Wind Watch or Warning for these locations. If confidence increases, these areas may see an upgrade from a Wind Advisory to a High Wind Warning. Winds will begin to diminish overnight Thursday into Friday morning with gusts 25 to 35 mph. Additionally, much colder temperatures are expected Friday, with highs in the 30s, and potentially sub-freezing highs over the weekend. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Good afternoon, While it’s early, we wanted to provide an early heads-up regarding a potential strong wind event on Thursday, January 2nd, especially with the New Year’s holiday this week. At this time, we are confident in widespread wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph, but we cannot rule out higher gusts. As the event is still three days away, adjustments to the timing and strength of the gusts are possible. Good morning, Following is an update regarding the ongoing light freezing event which will lead to hazardous travel conditions this morning for locations north and west of Interstate 95. The main change compared to the prior briefing is that the duration of icing is now expected to be shorter, with temperatures either expected to warm to above freezing sooner and precipitation tapering off by late this morning. This has led to small reductions in the forecast light icing amounts. We still expect hazardous road conditions to develop this morning for areas north and west of Interstate 95, but especially in the Connecticut Valley and Merrimack Valley. The Winter Weather Advisory continues with freezing rain currently occurring, but we expect to be able to cancel or expire most of or all of the Advisory prior to its 1 PM expiration. Supporting graphics sent in Friday afternoon's weather briefing sent Friday afternoon are still valid. This will be the final weather briefing regarding this weather event. Thank You! NWS Boston EM Briefing: Light Icing Expected Saturday

Good afternoon everyone, The forecast remains on track for light icing across much of southern New England Saturday morning with the onset between 4 AM and 8 AM from west to east. The one change was to expand the Winter Weather Advisory to include metro Boston and northwest Rhode Island. In these areas, an hour or two of light freezing rain at the start could bring a brief period of light icing Saturday morning. For the entire Advisory area, we are still expecting light ice accumulations, no more than one tenth of an inch, with impacts solely on travel conditions and walkways. Outside of the Advisory area, plain rain is expected. Please see the attached one-page briefing and related images for more information. Note that the chances of icing remain highest in the Connecticut and Merrimack Valleys, but also can't be ruled out closer to Boston and in northern Rhode Island. Good morning, Following is an update regarding an expected light freezing rain event on Saturday, mainly for areas in Southern New England north and west of Interstate 95. *Winter Weather Advisories* have now been issued for portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut, valid from 4 AM Saturday morning to 1 PM Saturday afternoon. We expect only light accumulations of ice, to no more than a tenth of an inch. Impacts should be limited to hazardous travel conditions. An updated one-page briefing and supporting graphics are attached, which include the forecast ice accumulations as well as a graphic outlining the Winter Weather Advisory area. Good Afternoon Everyone, There is the potential for light icing late Friday night into Saturday morning, especially near the Berkshires, Litchfield Hills, and in the Connecticut River Valley including Hartford and Springfield. This would result in hazardous travel before the icing threat ends by midday Saturday, including those portions of Interstates 90 and 91. Good morning everyone! We just wanted to let you know that we have increased snowfall totals into the 2-4" range for portions of central and eastern MA as well as much of Rhode Island. Therefore...we have issued a Winter Weather Advisory through tonight for much of this region including the Boston to Providence corridor. We do expect snow to expand in coverage through the afternoon and persist into the evening before things begin to wind down after midnight. Temperatures just southeast of the Boston to Providence corridor were above freezing allowing for some light rain. It will get colder later this afternoon and especially by this evening allowing for a change to snow. Untreated roads may become snow covered and slippery especially for the evening commute as temperatures drop. Good morning everyone We just wanted to let you know that the Winter Weather Advisory has been extended further east to cover all of Connecticut except the immediate south coast. We also included Rhode Island in this Winter Weather Advisory through 11 am this morning. A mixture of light snow and light freezing rain/freezing drizzle may result in a light glaze of ice on untreated surfaces for the morning commute. Any snow amounts will be just a dusting to 1", but the main concern is the potential for a light glaze of ice. The area of concern includes the Hartford, to Springfield, to Providence Metro areas for the morning commute. Temperatures should rise above freezing by late morning or lunch time alleviating any issues. We have included a graphic of the Winter Weather Advisory below. Thank You!
