[2023.04.29 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Heavy Rain Late Sunday Afternoon And Sunday Night

Good afternoon everyone We just wanted to send out a quick email on the expected heavy rain along with the risk for a few embedded thunderstorms late Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 3 inches are expected, which may result in typical nuisance poor drainage street flooding. There is a low risk for localized areas to receive in excess of 3 inches of rain especially if any thunderstorms develop. If these localized higher amounts were to be realized some river and small stream flooding would be possible. The greatest risk for this would be across interior southern New England and perhaps far northeast Massachusetts. To sum up...currently we are expecting heavy rain late Sunday afternoon and night favoring mainly typical nuisance poor drainage street flooding. However...we wanted to make you aware that there is a low risk for localized areas to receive in excess of 3 inches of rain. If this were to occur some river and small stream flooding will be possible. In addition...any embedded thunderstorms that occur are not expected to be severe. The heavy rain will have departed the region well before the Monday morning commute. We have included the image of the expected rainfall through Sunday night. Good morning everyone, As you may have seen, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for all of southern New England for today, Tuesday April 11th, with the exception of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. The Red Flag Warning was prompted by: - Anomalously dry conditions over the last several days - Relative Humidity values less than 25% this afternoon - Gusty W/SW winds up to 30 mph Note that any fires that start today will spread quickly and could be difficult to contain. With dry conditions expected the rest of the week, it is likely that additional fire weather headlines will be considered over the coming days. Good morning, Due to the combination of dry conditions and gusty winds today, there is an elevated fire weather risk. A Red Flag Warning has been posted for most of southern New England. A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Cape Cod and the islands, where conditions are more marginal. The attached graphic shows the location of the Red Flag Warnings today. Looking farther ahead, dry weather is expected to persist through most of next week. Critically low daytime relative humidity is expected each day through Monday. The aspect which remains a concern will be wind speeds. Winds are not anticipated to be strong enough to elevate fire weather concerns significantly Saturday. However, gusty winds could develop Sunday and Monday. Daytime relative humidity may not be quite as low late next week, but it will be warmer.
