Good afternoon everyone, Just wanted to send out a quick update regarding the flash freeze potential across eastern MA and Rhode Island during the mid/late afternoon period. Current temps are in the upper teens and lower 20s across central and interior NE MA and this colder air will begin to move south across eastern MA and RI from north to south between 3 and 6 pm. Temps will quickly fall into and through the 20s resulting in a rapid freeze up and icy roads which will impact the evening commute. The colder air will be accompanied by a period of light snow with additional accumulation of a coating to 2 inches through this evening. Good morning everyone, The changeover from snow to sleet has occurred faster than expected, so we are providing an updated additional snowfall forecast as well as transition timing map. Also attached is an observed snowfall map through 730 AM. *What has changed:* 1. Reduced the amount of snow, especially south of the Pike where many locations have already seen a changeover to sleet. *Additional note:* 2. The previous messaging regarding the second round of snow this afternoon into evening for Central/Eastern MA and RI, as well as the flash freeze threat remains the same. Thank you. Good afternoon everyone, *What has changed:* winter storm watches have been converted to winter storm warnings across northern CT/RI and nearby southeast MA. Winter storm watches farther south have been converted to winter weather advisories from central RI to the south coast, including south coastal MA and Cape Cod. Attached is our updated winter storm briefing for Friday, including a loop of expected precipitation type, hourly snowfall rates and hourly temperatures Friday, indicating cold air coming back into RI & eastern MA beginning 4-7 pm, resulting in any leftover slush or residual road moisture quickly freezing, hence a flash freeze that may impact the late day commute. Good afternoon everyone, While we work on our updated winter storm graphics, we wanted to communicate with you our* key messages* - 1) snow begins after midnight regionwide 2) heaviest snow falls from about 4 AM to 8 AM in CT, RI and southeast MA, then snow changes to sleet and freezing rain, finally over to all rain by noon. For northern MA, heaviest snow persists until late morning before tapering off to light snow in the afternoon. This includes the Greater Boston area. 3) some improvement for the afternoon across eastern CT-RI and eastern MA, including the Greater Boston area, as temperatures rise above freezing 4) colder air surges back into RI and eastern MA between 4 pm and 7 pm, with temperatures falling below freezing. Thus, any remaining slush or residual road moisture will freeze, hence flash freeze possible late afternoon into the evening. We will send an updated briefing package with graphics between 3 pm and 4 pm. Winter Storm Watches have been converted to Winter Storm Warnings north of the Mass Pike. 2. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for southern CT. 3. Good Afternoon, attached is the latest update to the expected winter storm on Friday. There is the one pager, along with a few accompanying graphics to show the timing of the snow and the expected change from snow to a wintry mix. Very few changes have been made to the forecast. There is still considerable uncertainty to accumulations south of the Mass Pike due to the exact timing of the change from snow to a wintry mix. We are more confident that there will be a period of 1" per hour snowfall rates that will generally line up in timing with the Friday morning commute.
