Good evening everyone, This e-mail update provides the PDF attachment for this briefing. All other details in this e-mail remain unchanged from 430 pm. Here is the latest information on the upcoming significant winter storm, which will begin tomorrow afternoon and end early Tuesday morning. *Watches/Warnings/Advisories:* 1) Winter Storm Warning continues for Western Hampden, Western Hampshire, all of Franklin, northern Worcester, and far northwest Middlesex Counties in MA 2) Winter Storm Watch continues for Hartford and Tolland Counties in northern CT; eastern Hampden, eastern Hampshire, southern Worcester, Norfolk, central and southeast Middlesex, Suffolk and Essex Counties in MA 3) NEW: Winter Weather Advisory now in effect for Windham County, CT and northwest Providence County, RI. 4) NEW: Gale Watch now in effect for all coastal waters from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon/night. *What we expect:* *Sunday into early Monday* - Snow will begin in western MA between Noon and 1 PM Sunday; CT Valley and central MA 1-3 PM Sunday; and eastern MA 3-5 PM. - Snow becomes heavy at times (1"/hour) shortly after onset and continues in the late afternoon and evening hours. - As warmer air intrudes aloft, precipitation changes to sleet, then freezing rain in northern CT, RI, to a sleet/snow mix in northern MA, and to plain rain in southern RI and southeast MA for the overnight hours. - By daybreak Monday, snow/sleet accumulations of 6-8" possible in western and northern MA with approximately 4-6" in Springfield and interior Essex County, with 2-5" elsewhere, except less than an inch on Cape Cod/Islands and near the immediate coast in southeast MA and southern RI. - The snow will be very moisture-laden. This could make for compact snow but it will be heavy to shovel. - Wind gusts will increase to 25-40 mph along the south coast late Sunday night. *Monday into early Tuesday* - Early in the morning, rain will be occurring in RI and much of eastern MA, with a mixed bag elsewhere. However, everything will change back to snow from west to east. The changeover will reach as far east as northeast MA, central MA, and northern CT by about 3 PM. It will reach RI and eastern MA (except Cape Cod/Islands) by between 7 PM and 11 PM Monday. The snow could continue into early Tuesday morning. Less snow is expected than what occurred on the front end Sunday, but there still could be several inches in some locations. This may be dependent on where localized bands of heavier snow set up. - Winds will gust to 35-45 mph along coastal areas, with the highest gusts over Cape Ann, outer Cape Cod, and the coastal waters off eastern MA. - Storm surges of up to 2 feet are expected, but due to low astronomical tides, only splashover is expected for east coastal MA, including Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket (with northeast winds). Will keep a close eye on this as some pockets on minor coastal flooding cannot be ruled out. *Storm Total Accumulations:* - We are still expecting a widespread 8 to 10 inches over much of interior MA with as much as a foot possible in the higher Worcester hills and 12 to 17 inches in the east slopes of the Berkshires. Amounts drop off rapidly as one heads southeast, with 3 to 5 inches from southern Hartford County eastward to Providence and Plymouth and less than an inch on Cape Cod and the Islands. *Confidence* : - Confidence remains highest in the warning areas of western and northern MA, where >6" of snow in a 12 hour period or 8" in a 24 hour period is likely. - Confidence remains low enough at this point, however, to have continued the Winter Storm Watch for many interior locations. This is due to not being completely sure of the extent of the warm air intrusion, which could greatly impact snowfall totals. A colder scenario by just a few degrees would mean more snow than currently forecast. Our lowest confidence is in southeast sections, particularly along the I-95 corridor. A Winter Storm Watch continues for portions of north central CT, northern MA and central MA, from midday Sunday through Tuesday morning. *NEW:* a *Winter Storm Warning* has been issued for north central Massachusetts and the east slopes of the Berkshires *Sunday through Monday Night Storm* *What: *Significant snowfall with impactful accumulations possible. A wintry mix will occur over portions of southern New England, especially eastern MA, RI and northern CT. - Snowfall accumulations could surpass a foot across much of interior southern New England. - Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are possible along the I-95 corridor in northeast MA, including the Boston area, except 2 to 5 inches of snow is possible along the immediate shoreline. A wintry mix with sleet and rain is possible at times. - Accumulations of 5 to 10 inches are possible across north central CT. A wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible at times, with up to 0.2 inch of icing. - While a wintry mix is also expected over northeast CT, RI and into southeast MA, lesser accumulations are expected due to mixing with or a changeover to rain. Good morning, We wanted to keep you posted on the potentially significant winter storm expected late this weekend into early next week, as well as some minor coastal flooding possible this afternoon. We continue to have increasing confidence for wintry weather, with impactful accumulations possible into interior southern New England. *Coastal Flooding Today* *What: *A Coastal Flood Statement has been issued for localized coastal flooding. Up to one half foot of inundation above ground is possible in low lying areas. *When:* Noon through this afternoon. *Where:* North facing coastlines of Cape Cod and Nantucket. Confidence is higher that we would see issues at Nantucket. *Sunday/Monday Storm* *What: *Significant snowfall with impactful accumulations possible. *When:* Mid day Sunday through Tuesday morning. *Where:* Significant snowfall most likely for interior southern New England, mainly north and west of the I-95 corridor, with a mix of rain and snow to the south and east. Good afternoon, We wanted to update you on continued strong wind gusts into tonight for Cape Cod and Nantucket, and on the potential for a winter weather event from Sunday through Monday night. *Changes with this Update*: The *Wind Advisory *has been cancelled for most of coastal eastern MA. It remains in effect for Cape Cod and Nantucket until 2 AM Friday. 1) Thanksgiving Winds: - Wind Advisory in effect until 2 AM Friday for Cape Cod and Nantucket. - Northwest winds gusting from 40 to 50 mph at times until 2 AM. Decreasing to 30-35 mph for the remainder of the overnight. 2) Outlook for potential winter weather event Sunday through Monday night - Increasing confidence for wintry weather, with impactful accumulations possible into interior southern New England (Mainly north and west of the I-95 corridor) Sunday into Monday night. - While the primary accumulation period is looking to be Sunday into Monday night, wintry weather may linger into Tuesday. - There remains quite a bit of uncertainty as to the exact track, ending of the storm, and accumulation amounts. Good Afternoon. While there are not significant changes from this morning's briefing, there is still a threat for adverse weather conditions through tonight. There may be gusty winds, slippery travel conditions due to wintry weather as well as a chance for splashover along the south coast and into Boston Harbor. *Headlines*: - *Storm Warning* for the eastern open waters, Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound and Massachusetts/Ipswich Bays *in effect through 1 AM Monday*, *Gale Warnings* in effect for the remaining coastal waters. - *High Wind Warning* for Cape Cod *in effect through 1 AM Monday* - *Wind Advisory *for eastern Massachusetts into western Plymouth County, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard* in effect through 1 AM Monday* *NOTE*: There are *no changes* with this update. *DETAILS*: *Light Snow: Worcester Hills into the Berkshires* *Locations*: The high terrain of the Worcester Hills and the east slopes of the Berkshires. *Timing:* Any leftover rain will change back to wet snow before ending by around 10 PM tonight. *Expected Amounts:* Snow accumulations will range from a coating up to 2 inches, with the highest risk for higher amounts at elevations near and above 1500 feet. *Impact*: Slippery travel due to snow covered roadways. *Strong Northwest Winds: Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands* *Locations*: Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands *Wind Gusts and Timing:* Northwest winds gusting from 45 mph to 60 mph, highest across Cape Cod. Strongest wind gusts will linger this evening, then should diminish from about 10 PM tonight through early Monday morning from west to east. *Impact:* Limited. A few unsecured objects may become dislodged, tree branches may fall which could result in isolated power outages. A storm system moving northeast from the mid-Atlantic region is expected to bring a variety of wind, wintry weather and coastal splashover hazards to parts of Southern New England today into tonight. *Changes with this update:* - None. *DETAILS*: *Light Icing and Light Snow: Worcester Hills into the Berkshires* *Locations*: The high terrain of the Worcester Hills and the east slopes of the Berkshires. *Timing:* Ongoing, with wintry precipitation expected to change to all rain by mid-morning. Rain then changes back to wet snow late this afternoon into early evening. *Expected Amounts:* A light glaze of ice (up to 1/10"), with up to 2 inches of snow at the highest elevations of western Franklin and western Hampshire counties. *Impact*: Slippery travel. *Strong Northwest Winds: Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands* *Locations*: Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands *Wind Gusts and Timing:* Northwest winds gusting to 40-50 mph. Significant impacts are not anticipated. *Splashover: This Evening's High Tide* *Timing*: This evening's high tide (9:17 PM at Boston and 10:24 PM on Nantucket) Brief splashover can't be ruled out for tonight's high tide with astronomically high tides.
