Good morning everyone. While the rain/snow is ending in time for the morning rush hour, untreated roads will be snow covered and slippery across interior southern New England. In addition, temperatures falling below freezing along the Boston to Providence corridor may result in some black ice for the morning commute. Otherwise, the main focus will be for high impact snow squalls late this afternoon and early this evening followed by bitterly cold wind chills. Will highlight the main concerns in the email and also attach a few images. *High Impact Snow Squalls Between 3 and 7 PM This Evening Along With Brief Strong To Perhaps Damaging Wind Gusts:* - Scattered to numerous snow squalls cross western MA/northern CT between 3 and 5 pm and eastern MA/RI between 5 and 7 pm this evening. - Brief very heavy snow, near white-out conditions and strong to perhaps damaging wind gusts anticipated. Very hazardous travel for parts of the evening rush hour. - Snow Squalls last less than 30 minutes in most locations but drop a quick coating to 1.5 inches of snow. Very localized 2-3" amounts can not be ruled out in the heaviest squalls. - Brief 40 to 60 mph wind gusts possible with the heaviest snow squalls. Localized tree damage/isolated power outages possible. - High Wind Warnings posted for the Cape/Nantucket with Wind Advisories for most other locations in southern New England. *Bitterly Cold Wind Chills Later Tonight into Thursday Morning:* - Wind chills drop to between 10 and 25 below zero late tonight into Thursday morning and near 30 below zero across the Berkshires. - Wind Chill Advisories posted along and northwest of the Boston to Providence corridor with Wind Chill Warnings in the Berkshires. *Marine Headlines:* - Gale and Storm Warnings hoisted for 40 to 50 knot wind gusts later today and especially this evening. - Moderate to heavy freezing spray expected later tonight into Thursday night. Expecting impacts and hazardous travel conditions for this afternoon into evenings commute, with some icy spots for the Wednesday AM commute and scattered snow squalls / near white-out conditions for the Wednesday PM commute. Bitter Arctic cold air follows Wednesday night into Thursday yielding a risk to health especially with prolonged outdoor exposure. If you have any additional questions, comments and/or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. *What / Where / When ...* - *Accumulating snow through early Wednesday morning.* - Main area of concern N&W of Hartford - Worcester - Bedford where it'll be all snow throughout. - Roughly 3 to 6 inches forecast, with locally higher amounts in the Berkshires. - Winter weather headlines continue through early morning Wednesday having been expanded into central Middlesex County MA. - In and around Hartford - Worcester - Bedford, beginning as snow mixing with rain - Roughly 2 to 4 inches is forecast. - S&E of Hartford - Worcester - Bedford, beginning as snow changing to rain - Roughly 1 to 2 inches is forecast, except for S&E MA and RI which will see a coating to 1 inch - *Impacts ... * - Snow covered highways expected if left untreated through this evenings commute, especially around the I-91 corridor. Reductions in visibility. Good morning Here are the main weather concerns/impacts later today into Thursday morning. We have attached a few brief slides highlighting the main concerns. *Accumulating Snow late today into tonight: * - Precipitation overspreads western MA northern CT between 3 and 6 pm this evening, reaching eastern MA/RI after 6 or 7 pm. - Precipitation type mainly rain along and southeast of a Boston to Providence, to Hartford line after a brief period of snow possible at the onset. Any snow accumulations generally less than 1 inch. - Mainly snow expected northwest of a Bradley CT, to Worcester MA, to Bedford MA line. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches anticipated, except 4 to 8 inches in the Berkshires. - Precipitation ends from west to east between 2 and 5 am Wednesday morning. Locations that change to rain may see precipitation end as a brief period of snow, mainly across northern CT and interior MA. - Dry weather anticipated for the Wednesday morning commute, but untreated roads across the interior may remain slippery. *Localized Snow Squalls/Brief Strong to Damaging Wind Gusts Wednesday Afternoon and Evening:* - Scattered snow squalls anticipated between 3 and 7 pm Wednesday evening. These squalls may contain briefly very heavy snow, strong winds, near white-out conditions, and hazardous travel for the Wed evening commute. - Brief 35 to 55 mph wind gusts possible Wednesday afternoon and evening in most locations and between 50 and 60 mph across the Cape/Islands. - High Wind Watch posted for the Cape and Islands. Good afternoon, The *WINTER STORM WATCH* continues over northern and western portions of MA with the expected accumulating snowfall for Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. To clarify why we held with the *WATCH*. It is entirely possible the associated storm system could move through faster and we could get less. It is also possible that the heavier precipitation / snowfall outcomes occur outside of MA, more across northern areas of New England. While there is concern of travel impacts outlined below, there is still not a high level of confidence with this forecast. Behind the snows, bitter cold and dangerously low wind chills follow for Wednesday into Thursday. Attached, you'll find the latest headlines and snowfall forecast, along with worst-case and best-case scenarios, for Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning along with forecast precipitation types. Also, we've included forecast lowest wind chills for Wednesday through Thursday. Can't rule out isolated issues with freezing pipes. - *Marine Impacts* ... moderate freezing spray forecast with gales and wave heights up as high as 8 to 12 feet, expect dangerous conditions for all vessels, even those properly equipped for Wednesday through Thursday. *Uncertainty ...* - Biggest challenge is nailing down the exact evolution of the rain / snow line which will ultimately determine snowfall amounts and outcomes. - In addition, there is a measure of uncertainty concerning snowfall amounts, whether meeting or exceeding 3" advisory / 6" warning level criteria for particular counties, hence the continuance of the WATCH. This is for the high tide this morning, around 10AM/11AM. Rain continues to overspread this morning, with the heaviest falling mid morning to late afternoon. *What / Where / When ... * - *Periods of heavy rain, potential for flash flooding ...
