by BOX Operations - NOAA Service Account 18 Apr '22

18 Apr '22
Good afternoon, Find attached our latest briefing and supporting graphics on a storm system expected to bring strong winds, wind-driven heavy rains, accumulating snow at elevations above 1500 ft, and coastal flooding. *Weather Headline Changes Since Last Full Briefing: * - *Coastal Flood Warning* in effect for coastal Fairfield County in southern CT. - *Coastal Flood Advisory* for coastal New Haven County in southern CT. - *Coastal Flood Statement* for minor splashover in effect for eastern MA from South Shore to the North Shore. - *Wind Advisory* for Berkshire County in western MA. *Wind Gusts, Rain, Snow Accumulation Changes Since Last Full Briefing:* - Wind gusts adjusted upward slightly. - Snow accumulations across the high terrain adjusted downward slightly. We still anticipate that strong winds and heavy rain will be the main impacts felt by most people during this event. Coastal flooding risks appear greatest in southern CT closer to high tide, with minor splashover for vulnerable shoreline roads in eastern MA. Up to 4 inches of wet snow may coat trees across the Berkshires. Supporting graphics attached include: - Updated peak wind gust map, and an attached wind gust table which shows the timing of wind gusts tonight through Tuesday. - Updated snow and rainfall accumulations. - Active Wind, Winter Weather and Marine Headlines. - Active Coastal Flood Headlines. Unless there are significant changes that dictate otherwise, this will be the final briefing on this weather event. Thank You! [2022.04.18 Early PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing UPDATE: Strong Storm to Bring Multiple Weather Hazards Tonight/Tomorrow Morning
by BOX Operations - NOAA Service Account 18 Apr '22

18 Apr '22
Good early afternoon, We are still reviewing data and incoming forecast guidance, and as such the forecast is not finalized as yet. However we did want to provide you with an update regarding the storm system expected to affect Southern New England later tonight into Tuesday morning. The forecast regarding strong winds and heavy rain looks to be similar to what was briefed early this morning. Strong winds and heavy rain appear likely to pose the greatest overall impact from this storm system. Regarding the accumulating higher-elevation snow forecast: The storm's track looks to be adjusting slightly further westward. As this would translate to a milder overall outcome, we may be looking at lowering snow amounts slightly for elevations above 1500 ft. On the coastal flooding forecast: we expect a peak storm surge of around 2 ft to occur Tuesday morning, closer to low tide. At morning high tide, set to be around 130 AM Tuesday, a surge of 0.5-1 ft is anticipated. This would mean instances of minor splashover especially from Scituate to the North Shore. Erosion potential does not look to be a major issue as waves do not appear to be built up enough around the time of high tide. We are still considering coastal flood headlines for the Tuesday morning high tide to address the splashover risk. Expect a full briefing update with graphics by 500 PM today, shortly after the forecast is finalized. Thank You! by BOX Operations - NOAA Service Account 18 Apr '22

18 Apr '22
Good morning, Attached is an updated 1 page briefing and supporting graphics regarding a storm expected to produce multiple weather hazards tonight into tomorrow morning. *What Has Changed?* - Winter weather advisory for western Franklin county. This will be for up to 4 inches of heavy wet snowfall *at elevations above 1500 feet. * - High wind watch upgraded to high wind warning for Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties. - Wind advisory in effect for Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Plymouth, Bristol counties in MA and Block Island, Washington, and Newport counties in RI. There also remains a threat for splashover/minor coastal flooding overnight. No coastal flood headlines are active at this time, but we will revisit the need for any potential coastal flood headlines this afternoon. [2022.04.17 PM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Strong Storm to Bring Multiple Weather Hazards Monday Night into Tuesday Morning
by BOX Operations - NOAA Service Account 17 Apr '22

17 Apr '22
Good afternoon, Attached is an initial briefing and supporting graphics regarding a storm system expected to bring strong to damaging winds, splashover to minor coastal flooding, accumulating snow in the Berkshires, and a period of heavy rain Monday night into Tuesday morning. A *High Wind Watch *is in effect for Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties in MA from late Monday night into Tuesday morning. The storm's eventual track is still uncertain, and further adjustments to the snow forecast are still possible depending on the track. Regarding coastal flooding: east-southeast wind on Tuesday morning's high tide (1:26 AM) would favor Boston Harbor and the North Shore as the areas most at risk. A 2 ft storm surge is currently expected after this high tide, supporting minor splashover or minor coastal flooding. A greater coastal flooding risk is possible if the peak surge occurs closer to the time of high tide (e.g. sooner than currently anticipated). Supporting graphics attached include: a map of active headlines, expected peak wind gusts, and forecast storm total rain and snow accumulations. Expect the next update to this briefing by 6 AM Monday. Thank You! Meteorologists: Andrew Loconto and Kevin Cadima If you have any questions or would like more information, don't hesitate to contact us via this email address, on NWSChat <https://nwschat.weather.gov/>, or at the following: National Weather Service Boston/Norton, MA 46 Commerce Way Norton, MA 02766 508.622.3280 Website <http://www.weather.gov/boston> | Facebook <http://www.facebook.com/NWSBoston> | Twitter <http://www.twitter.com/NWSBoston>

[2022.04.14 AM] NWS Boston EM Briefing: Strong To Severe Storms Possible this Afternoon/Evening
by BOX Operations - NOAA Service Account 14 Apr '22

14 Apr '22
Good morning, Attached is a briefing regarding the potential for strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening. Little has changed since the last briefing. Biggest changes in the forecast are with respect to confidence in timing and location of strong to severe storms. Expect storms to reach the MA/NY border in the 4-5 PM time frame. Best chance for strong to severe storms in our forecast area will be for extreme western MA/CT. Chances will drop off considerably as storms move further east this evening. Not expecting any severe weather for the areas east of Worcester. This will be the final briefing package for this event barring any unexpected changes to the forecast.
