Good morning, A long duration storm system continues to bring wind, rain and coastal flooding to the region today into this evening. Details are below along with the attached briefing. *What has changed ...* - The *FLOOD WATCH* has been canceled. - A *WIND ADVISORY* continues for the Cape & Islands through 6 pm. - A *COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY* has been issued for Nantucket with the 11:30 am high tide. - *STORM WARNINGS* have been canceled. - *GALE WARNINGS* continue till 5 am Saturday at the latest. *What / Where / When ... * *Strong to damaging winds (Cape & Islands)* - Especially along the immediate coastline for the areas referenced above - Max sustained around 25 to 35 mph, max gusts around 35 to 50 mph - Isolated tree damage, power outages - Strongest winds this morning into this afternoon, diminishing evening and overnight *Minor coastal flooding (Nantucket)* - Around 1.5 to 2.0 foot surge with high tides + around 5 to 10 foot waves - Less than one-foot of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways, more specifically, potential issues for Easy Street in Nantucket - For the high tide around 11:30 am - Surge lowers into Saturday with diminishing wind and wave action - Beach erosion remains possible with persistent northeast winds and waves of 10 to 20 feet up to the entrances of inner bays and sounds *Gale force winds along with high seas (all waters)* - Dangerous sea conditions for all vessels - Strong winds and high seas continue this morning into this afternoon, diminishing overnight into Saturday - Max sustained winds around 25-35 kts, gusts around 35-45 kts; highest seas around 10-20 feet If you have any questions or would like more information, don't hesitate to contact us via this email address or on NWSChat <https://nwschat.weather.gov/>. We are forecasting 1 to 2 inches throughout the 2-day event across E / NE Massachusetts. - The *WIND ADVISORY* was dropped for northeast CT and northwest RI as gusts exceeding 45 mph are no longer anticipated. Greetings all, *A significant, impactful and potential dangerous situation is unfolding which may perhaps catch some folks off guard as this is an early-season storm system*. With increasing confidence, headlines have been updated accordingly to highlight periods in where threats will occur and when we have the greatest concern for impacts. *At this point we are encouraging everyone to plan accordingly, to take action as necessary especially for coastline communities towards the protection of life and property*. Greetings all, We continue to forecast a late week offshore ocean storm. Confidence is growing for at least some impact to southern New England. Higher end watches have been posted for the Cape and islands, as well as the adjacent coastal waters. These watches highlight the period of greatest concern for the wind threat. Gusty winds will begin *earlier *than when these watches begin. *What ...* - Lashing easterly winds and rain - Potential sustained winds 20 to 30 mph, gusts 30 to 50 mph, perhaps stronger - Possibly heavy rainfall amounts which could lead to localized flooding - Building waves and beach erosion - Gales, potentially storms over the waters with seas building upwards of 20 feet *Where ...* - All of Southern New England under threat - However, the more significant impacts are forecast along the coast, especially the southern RI, southern and southeastern MA coastline, including Cape Cod and the Islands *When ...* - Developing Wednesday, the height of impacts are anticipated late Thursday into Friday - Will see an improving trend beginning as early as Friday night going through the weekend It's important to note that tides are astronomically low. A Coastal Flood Watch has been posted for portions of the South Shore, Cape and islands. There is a risk in these areas for large surges and waves to overcome the lower astronomical tide and possibly result in coastal flooding. These details will evolve with later forecasts.
