[2024.06.21 AM] NWS Boston Briefing: Strong to Locally Severe Storms this Afternoon

Good morning everyone, Please find a briefing attached regarding the threat for locally severe storms this afternoon. The threat for storms is greatest between 1PM and 8 PM this evening. As we saw last night, storms are expected to rapidly weaken after sunset. Aerial coverage of storms will be greatest west of I-495; this includes Rhode Island, Connecticut, and central and western Massachusetts. While it is difficult to pinpoint which areas will receive the greatest amount of rain due to the convective nature of these storms, some localities could see as much as 3" between 2 pm and 8 pm, and locally higher amounts possible, of rain in near stationary storms. This could introduce an urban and flash flooding threat should storms set up over places like Providence, Hartford, or Springfield. We expect similar conditions both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, so while this will be the only briefing regarding THIS afternoon, later shifts may elect to send out similar briefings Saturday and Sunday morning. Good morning everyone, Please find our latest briefing attached regarding the continued heat and humidity. In general, the forecast remains unchanged, with today expected to be the final day for oppressive conditions for much of eastern MA and RI as a cold front slides across the region, from northeast to southwest, tomorrow. The heat advisory for these areas will expire tonight at 7 PM. Connecticut will be last to see relief from the front, thus, a Heat Advisory remains in place for portions of the southern CT River Valley and Hartford-Springfield corridor through 7 PM tomorrow. We do anticipate scattered showers and thunderstorms both this afternoon and Friday afternoon. Today, storms will be concentrated north of the MA Turnpike. Key Points: - *Heat Advisories:* - Interior southern New England (away from the coast): Effective through 7 PM Thursday. - Southern Connecticut River Valley: Effective until 7 PM Friday. Confidence has grown regarding a cold front that will move from northeast to southwest across the region on Friday. Heat will persist into Friday across the CT River Valley. Since last evening, *all *Excessive Heat Watches have been *converted* to Heat Advisories for Thursday and Friday. Confidence has grown regarding a cold front that will move from northeast to southwest across the region on Friday. Heat will persist into Friday across the CT River Valley. Good morning everyone, Please find our latest briefing regarding this week's dangerous heat and humidity attached. Heat Headlines remain identical to yesterday afternoon, with a Heat Advisory in place for much of interior southern New England through this evening. In addition to the Heat Advisory, there is an Air Quality alert for portions of Connecticut and Massachusetts. An Excessive Heat Watch remains in place for Wednesday and Thursday. We expect a decision to be made regarding Wednesday's headline, either an upgrade to an Excessive Heat Warning or a downgrade to Heat Advisory by 5pm this afternoon. The most significant change to the forecast overnight is the introduction of uncertainty regarding oppressive heat and humidity extending into Friday, especially across eastern MA, with a potential cold front introducing isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms chances to the region. Good afternoon everyone, There have been no significant changes in thinking for the upcoming extended period of dangerous heat and humidity. The only changes to our headlines were: 1) We downgraded the *Excessive Heat Watch* for tomorrow (Tuesday) to a *Heat Advisory* since we should not reach Excessive Heat Warning criteria. 2) We trimmed most of Rhode Island and southeast MA out of the *Heat Advisory* for tomorrow (Tuesday). The heat and humidity will peak Wednesday and Thursday when Heat Indices reach 98 to 106 degrees away from the immediate south coast. Good morning everyone, We have issued a Heat Advisory for the rest of the region away from the immediate south coast, beginning Tuesday and continuing through Friday. The Excessive Heat Watch continues for the lower elevations of western Massachusetts and the interior portions of northeast MA. The heat and humidity will peak in the Wednesday through Friday time frame...when Heat Indices in the 98 to 106 degrees away from the immediate south coast. Not much relief is anticipated at night either with overnight heat indices only dropping into the 70s. We have attached our latest one-pager briefing along with a graphic of the current Heat Headlines. Also, we have included the Max Afternoon Heat Indices forecast in the Tuesday through Friday time frame. An updated email will be sent by 6 pm this evening.
